Restart A Heart Day with British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation holds a special place in the hearts of the Laing family, resonating deeply with all of us here at Laings. This connection is not merely symbolic; it's rooted in a very personal journey that our President and OBE, Stuart Laing, embarked on—a journey through heart failure. Stuart Laing's openness and vulnerability in sharing his experience and story shed light on the invaluable role played by the British Heart Foundation in his life. He has said:

"The British Heart Foundation helped me considerably in terms of understanding my condition and the available treatment options... they reminded me that I was not alone in this fight."

Since 2018, we have proudly stood as an official charity partner with the BHF, raising an impressive sum of £64,166 through a range of activities including silent auctions, fundraising events, and generous donations from clients and staff. This ongoing commitment provides vital support to life-saving research efforts aimed at finding cures and treatments for heart and circulatory diseases.

Restart A Heart Day

Defib training

One annual initiative that holds special significance for us is "Restart a Heart Day," which we are thrilled to endorse once again. This campaign, launching on October 16th, actively promotes the accessibility and use of public access defibrillators while also shedding light on the glaring healthcare access disparities that persist.

All Staff Training

Staff training

In 2022, we took a significant step by ensuring that all our staff members received defibrillator training. Our dedication to the BHF's cause led us to want to equip ourselves with the skills and confidence to administer CPR and defibrillator assistance should the need arise. Building on this momentum, Laings is now working towards ensuring that all new team members receive this crucial training within just six weeks of joining our ranks.

The UK witnesses over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests annually, with tragically low survival rates—less than one in ten people make it through. However, the effective application of CPR and a defibrillator can more than double the chances of survival in some cases. Restart A Heart Day is instrumental in its mission to help beat heartbreak forever. This year BHF have launched a free online training tool that takes only fifteen minutes to complete. Find out how to restart a heart today.

If you're keen to support the British Heart Foundation's endeavors, we encourage you to explore the various ways in which you can make a difference. Additionally, if you'd like to contribute to Laings' fundraising efforts, we welcome your donations via our JustGiving page.

At Laings, our connection with the British Heart Foundation runs deep, and our shared goal is clear: to pave the way for healthier hearts and brighter futures for all.
