Breitling a pioneer of pilots watches with a long-standing and rich aviation heritage , this year, the brand are embarking upon a truly historic journey with legendary aircraft - the Breitling Douglas DC-3.
The Douglas DC-3 is a twin-engine propeller plane, first launched in 1935. After its involvement in the Normandy landings in 1944, it soon became a part of the fleet for most major airlines, and is considered the first commercial passenger aircraft. Although over 16,000 were produced, today fewer than 150 of them remain - one of which is the Breitling DC-3.
Once part of American Airlines' fleet, this fully restored aircraft has recently embarked on an epic journey to celebrate its 77th birthday, thus becoming the oldest plane to complete a circumnavigation of the globe. Between March and September 2017, the Breitling DC-3 is completing a multi-stop, round-the-world trip, and Breitling are offering its customers the chance to be a part of this voyage.
To commemorate the world tour, Breitling are releasing a special limited edition model of its iconic Navitimer 01 watch, featuring an engraving of the DC-3 on the case back. This 46mm chronograph model will be limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, with only 30 available in the UK. These watches are on board the DC-3 as it makes its journey, and those customers lucky enough to receive one will also experience a once-in-a-lifetime flight aboard the Breitling DC-3 itself.
