A New Year's Resolution - Time to Get Your Watch Serviced

A mechanical watch, like a car, is a masterpiece of engineering and it deserves the same loving care and attention. In everyday use it goes through all kinds of tests, from vibrations and impacts, to dust and water, to changes in temperature and magnetic fields. Because of this we recommend you get your watch serviced every 3 to 7 years depending on the brand, your lifestyle and how often you wear it, to ensure that your watch never lets your down.

The inside of your watch is filled with all sorts of tiny little pieces, from screws to springs to miniature jewels, and these need oils to keep them lubricated and running smoothly. Just like a car, over time the oils dry out and can cause damage to the parts.

If you lead an active lifestyle and wear an automatic watch, you may find it has sped up and started outpace you. If this is the case it will need regulating through a series of tests to ensure that it matches your lifestyle so you don’t need to alter the time as often.

There are more magnets around than you may think, and over time these can also cause your watch to slow down or even stop. They are in mobile phones, speakers, computers among other things, but the good news is that, should it be required, demagnetising is one of the many services we offer.

Despite everything it endures, with a little love and care there’s no reason why your watch shouldn’t last a lifetime, or you may even pass it down to the next generation. And our in-house watch maker and state of the art workshop are on hand to help you do just that.

So if it’s been a while since your watch had an MOT, it doesn’t run as smoothly as it used to, or maybe just doesn’t look its absolute best any more, contact our service team about booking it in so your can enjoy that feeling  of having a brand new watch all over again!
