A Tribute to Adventures: Explore the Longines Spirit Flyback

Longines continues its legacy of creating timepieces destined for explorers, with the launch of the new Longines Spirit Flyback. Fit to conquer air, sea and land, the collection embodies the Maison’s pioneering spirit in a concentration of what its timepieces have to offer – history, technological innovation and esteemed design.

A Journey Through Time

In 1925, Longines created its first flyback or “return to flight” chronographs. Just a decade later, a patent application was filed to cement the invention which offered pilots two major advantages: they saved time and reduced the risk of errors related to the manipulation of different pushers. Navigation calculations were therefore eased, which could increase the chances of lives saved in the treacherous conditions of storms. The following year, the Flyback Chronographs were equipped with the calibre 132ZN, the most sought-after Longines movement among collectors today. 1968 sadly marked the end of Longines Flyback Chronographs, that was until their return today.

The Comeback of the Chronograph

2023 marks the year Longines launches a contemporary version of its flyback function which has helped to establish its reputation for reliability and excellence. The brand once again demonstrates the richness of its history and expertise in pilot's watches. With a diameter of 42mm, the steel case of the new model is complemented with a bidirectional bezel in black or blue ceramic that recalls the colour of the corresponding dial. A choice of four straps allow you to change the character of the timepiece with steel, chocolate leather, blue textile, and NATO fabric options. For the first time, the case back of the Spirit collection is transparent, showcasing the new, exclusive L791.4 chronometer-certified movement. Particular care has also been taken with the oscillating weight, engraved with a terrestrial globe for a nod to the adventure of the skies.
