Santos de Cartier – A Pioneering Spirit

The Santos de Cartier was originally designed in 1904 and was the product of an experiment between two revolutionary visionaries. Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneer of aviation, met Louis Cartier in 1900 and they forged a friendship that would forever change the world of watchmaking.

Alberto often complained of the difficulty of checking the time on his pocket-watch whilst he was flying. Cartier took note and three years later he revolutionised the world the watches by inventing the first purpose-designed modern wristwatch that his friend could check easily as he flew.

“The new Santos de Cartier watch stays true to its original philosophy by reflecting the innovative, ever-changing spirit of its own age.”

The iconic wristwatch has developed over the decades and the latest update focuses on the comfort and proportions of the timepiece, whilst still respecting the aesthetic of the watch. Its new look has been created to sit perfectly on the wrist, as well as being precisely weighted and measured to optimise comfort. The design of the bezel has also evolved to create a synergy between the lines of the case and the strap, with the sleeker lines really enhancing the watches stylish look. For ultimate comfort there is also interchangeable leather straps and bracelets. With a unisex design the Santos is a truly timeless watch.
