27th June 2024
Founded in 1840, Laings is a sixth-generation family-owned and run fine jewellery designer and retailer with six stores across the United Kingdom. As a company deeply rooted in tradition and integrity, we are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and protecting human rights.
Modern slavery represents a deplorable violation of basic human rights, depriving individuals of their freedom and dignity for the profit of others. It is a pervasive global issue, affecting millions worldwide, including within developed nations. Laings recognises the urgency of combatting this injustice and stands firmly against all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking.
With a steadfast zero-tolerance approach, we are fully dedicated to preventing slavery and human trafficking within both our operations and supply chain. We wholeheartedly support the government's efforts to eradicate these abhorrent practices and actively engage our suppliers to enhance transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain.
Laings has implemented robust policies and procedures to identify and address potential risks of modern slavery, including a stringent recruitment policy, a whistleblowing policy, and a comprehensive Dignity at Work policy. Moreover, we have strengthened our Supplier Agreement to explicitly prohibit slavery and human trafficking, ensuring that all diamonds purchased adhere to the standards of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
Furthermore, we are committed to raising awareness and providing training to our employees at all levels on the basic principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, empowering them to recognise the signs of slavery and human trafficking and take appropriate action. Our Modern Slavery Act Statement is readily accessible on our website, reflecting our commitment to transparency and accountability.
In conclusion, Laings reaffirms its unwavering dedication to combating modern slavery and human trafficking. By working collaboratively with our stakeholders and advocating for ethical practices, we strive to contribute to the collective effort to eliminate this grave violation of human rights.
Together, we can build a future free from modern slavery, where every individual is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
