At Laings we are focusing on the growth of our bespoke jewellery, jewellery manufacturing and jewellery servicing. We have an exciting opportunity for an accomplished and talented Goldsmith to assist as part of a highly skilled team who are supporting this goal. The successful candidate will embrace Laings’ passion for excellence and quality, as we constantly strive to uphold high-standards, ever mindful of our clients’ expectations.
Our Edinburgh Jewellery Workshop team assist 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7.
Here is How We Envision Your Role:
- Diagnosis of jewellery mounts in line with quality criteria and requesting alterations and recommending necessary work to undertake selected setting style.
- Understanding of quality in jewellery and methods needed to achieve results.
- Clear communication of estimated works in line with company authorised products and quality criteria.
- Be able to manage own time and proactive in completing work within timescales.
- Work with manufacture team to provide advice on setting styles, stone placement and provide samples where required.
- Maintain accurate records of tasks undertaken.
- Maintain stone melee and workshop stock.
- Set a variety of gemstones of different shapes into exquisite bespoke pieces of fine jewellery.
- Be proficient across different styles of setting, claw, channel, pave, thread and grain, flush, rubover.
- Closely follow any drawings or agreed requirements and specifications during the creation of commissions.
- Quality assessments of mount construction and finishing before setting
- Submission of completed works to production with all work order expectations and criteria understood and met.
- Accurate material ordering and controls.
- Careful material handling and execution of quality assurance checks upon materials receipt.
- Managing work orders to ensure accuracy of updates to service order progress.
- Working to personal production and quality targets and communicating progress to line management.
The Perfect Person We are Looking For:
- Qualification and/or proven experience as a professional setter in a fine jewellery environment
- Understanding of workshop machinery and tooling.
- Excellent dexterity.
- Excellent stone handling ability.
- Excellent knowledge of stone and metal hardness.
- Basic use of the Microsoft Office software suite, primarily Outlook and Word.
- Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills.
- Enthusiastic and positive approach to jewellery and team environment.
- Effective time management and ability to prioritise workload.
- Proven organisational skills, and ability to work under own initiative.
- Technically minded with a proven track record of working meticulously & accurately.
- Management of personal use consumables and refreshment dates.
