In 2021, the Tank is reinventing itself with this Cartier Tank Must watch, a new must-have directly inspired by the Tank Louis Cartier first created in 1922. An extra-large model with rounded brancards and a steel case, the Tank Must watch is encased with the usual Cartier signatures like the Roman numeral dial, the railway minute track, the blued sword-shaped hands and a blue synthetic stone cabochon set into the crown. With its steel strap and curved links, entirely redesigned and interchangeable, this Cartier model is a watchmaking classic from the Maison heritage.
The pioneering Tank Must watch is at the heart of a double innovation. The Manufacture has succeeded in applying the photovoltaic principle to the Tank watch's dial without altering its aesthetic. This true technical feat relies on the perforation of Roman numerals, whose openings allow light to reach the photovoltaic cells hidden under the dial. It took two years for the development team to integrate this SolarBeat™ movement, with an average lifespan of 16 years, into the Tank Must, the first watch to benefit from this technology.
