WEDDING TRENDS 2015
The 2015 Biggest Wedding Trends to Look Out For
Weddings are arguably becoming one of those occasions where couples are leaning more towards celebrating individualism than embracing traditionalism. Ceremonies are starting to become a representation of who the couple are as opposed to following general guidelines. That’s not to say that wedding traditions are being completely ignored. Rather couples are putting a twist on their special day so it is a more intimate and personal portrayal of their love.
Here at Laings, we explore the biggest wedding trends of 2015 that we believe are set to take off this year.

1.     Holiday weddings
Rather than marrying somewhere closer to home, more couples are choosing to wed abroad to celebrate their special day. This has the potential to be a lovely option if the destination means something to the couple or it’s somewhere they have holidayed previously and felt at home. Places like Japan and Uruguay are set to become more popular with Uruguay’s BahÃa Vik resort launch giving honeymooners the opportunity to enjoy 10 acres of beach dunes with stunning views of the Southern Atlantic Ocean.
2.     Premature hen and stag dos
Having a stag or hen do a couple of months before the wedding is starting to become more common amongst couples. It takes the pressure off the big day if the two occasions are further apart and it’s a good idea if there are certain people who can’t make it to the ceremony but still want to be involved in the wedding somehow.
3.     Honeymoon gift ideas
This is a trend that has grown over the last 5 years, as couples who have lived together for a substantial amount of time are beginning to ask friends and family to contribute to their honeymoon as a gift. This allows couples to have a more luxurious honeymoon than perhaps they could originally afford themselves and it is a refreshing alternative to the standard coffee maker/book ends gift.
4.     Weekend weddings
More couples are starting to spread their wedding over the course of a weekend, particularly if they are getting married in Europe. This could allow the couple to throw a welcome dinner the day before as a possible opportunity for certain family members - perhaps who haven’t already met - to get to know one another prior to the ceremony. It’s also an excuse to make the wedding a bigger and extra special celebration.
5.     Wedding planner apps
As technology continues to evolve, it seems that more and more couples are turning to their smartphones for help. Apps such as TaskRabbit are becoming more common amongst couples to help with wedding planning, which is great for bridesmaids, as it takes the pressure off them. Being a wedding guest is also getting easier because all the major registries are making it easy to buy gifts online.
6.     Engagement rings
With the birth of new designers and fashion trends evolving, it is no surprise that engagement rings are also having a revamp of their own. Rather than just opting for the classic centre stone on a platinum or white gold band, more people are choosing different styles with a rose gold or yellow gold band, which is great for certain skin tones. In addition, another trend to look out for in 2015 is the eternity band. This is perfect for brides who still want to add a bit of glitz to their ring but with diamonds featuring all around the band rather than the focus solely on the centre stone.
7.     Wedding rings
Wedding rings are one of the most important investments upon your marriage, since the wedding day will pass it's essential to have a high quality wedding ring that will stand the test of time. Designed to be worn every day and even to be passed down the generations, the choices are extensive; pick from traditional metals such as Gold and Platinum or select a more modern concept like Palladium or Titanium - you can even choose a ring that is set with diamonds. After the wedding day has been and gone it will ways be there as a reminder of your special day for the rest of your life.

8.     Wedding dresses
Whilst the classic white gown will always remain a favourite amongst brides-to-be, 2015 is the year when less traditional non-colour wedding gowns are set to become more desirable. Pale blues and pinks are becoming a more prominent feature channelling the bride’s individualism and personal taste.
As well as colour, wedding dress styles are set to change slightly in 2015. Due to Kate Middleton’s stunning gown, lace is rapidly becoming popular, providing image conscious brides with an alternative to completely covering up.
8.    Bridesmaid dresses
Having all of your bridesmaids in completely matching dresses seems a little dated these days. Instead, more brides are allowing their bridesmaids to wear different dresses depending on the styles/colours that suit them best. This also includes hairstyles and 2015 is set to show a more relaxed view on unstructured styles amongst brides.
9. Â Â Â Wedding cake
2014 saw an array of wedding cake designs and flavours that will continue in 2015. Metallic, sequin and glitter cakes give off a glamorous, minimalistic look, whilst ruffles are more idealistic and romantic. These, however, are not the only two options. Simple cakes, which are decorated with fresh fruit or flowers, demonstrate a more rustic and informal look. And quirky French desserts such as meringues and macaroons are also set to take force.
