Why is Rolex the Most Loved Watch Brand?
What makes Rolex so unique?
There are many things that make Rolex unique, one is the individuals who collect them. These people will go to the ends of the earth to find a particular watch and you see how much it means to them when they find the piece they have been searching for. Look at the recent worldwide Rolex sales of the Albino GMT, the COMEX divers watches and the Paul Newman dial cosmograph. You could visibly see how much each watch meant to the individual customer. That really makes working with Rolex something you can be proud of.
Another aspect which makes Rolex so unique is their fanatical attention to detail and the never ending quest for perfection. For example, the recent changes they've just made with the guarantee. Rolex guarantees are now for five years and this is one of the most fundamental changes they have implemented in the last decade. Alongside all the watch adaptations and the developments in movements, this will maintain Rolex's position as the market leader. Also, the recommended service intervals were always three to five years, this has now increased to every ten years, which will save the customer anything up to £900 in the first decade. To me, this illustrates the faith that they have in their own pieces.
Your favourite piece (or pieces) and why?
Explorer, because it is very simple and utilitarian, designed for a very specific purpose. Another favourite would also be the new Oyster Perpetual steel non date with red grape dial, for no other reason than I love the colour. It is very unique and stands out from everything else around it. It is a tough choice between the Explorer or the new Day-Date 40 with the blue dial, because only people who know about Rolex will know what it is made of, so it's very understated wealth. This is a key element with the Rolex brand, much of the love for the brand comes about having the knowledge and experience to appreciate the unrivalled quality of the pieces.
Why do you think it is one of (if not the) best known watch brand in the world?
Simple, it is the aspirational element to owning one. I had a customer recently who had been saving for a decade to buy one. I believe this shows the presence of the brand and how much Rolex can mean to an person. This makes being a brand manager for Rolex is a hugely fulfilling job, as you have the privilege of helping customers choose a piece that they are going to treasure for a lifetime.

What do customers love about the brand?
They are instantly recognisable, and you will find one with exactly the functions that you desire. Rolex consistently strive for perfection and are always working on the newest technology.  They look great on any occasion and are a piece that people will cherish and may well pass down through generations within a family.
What's your hidden gem of knowledge about Rolex?
The considerable charitable work they do is also up there on my list about why Rolex is such a special brand. Unlike many other brands they don’t publicise this work and are very understated with the amount of charities they support. As for their charitable contributions, I love their mentoring program, bringing young talent together with people who are at the top of their field. Rolex is also a non profit company, there are no shareholders to please so every penny they make goes back into the business or to its philanthropic endeavours.
