Rolex Baselworld 2017 Launch
It’s that exciting time of year again… Baselworld 2017. Every year the world’s biggest watch brands launch their latest creations for everyone to see. This year was no exception and there were some incredible surprises for the watch world! Being one of, it not the most famous watch brands in the world, the Rolex launch is always a key highlight for us. Yet again, Rolex surprised and delighted everyone with their latest editions.
We’ll take you through the highlights below, with thoughts from our Rolex brand manager in our Hampshire store.
Â
Oyster PerpetualSea-Dweller
First launched in 1967, this celebratory piece is a recognition of how far Rolex has come. Standing the test of time with their professional models, the Sea-Dweller features a 43mm case and is powered by the new calibre 3235 movement. As a special addition to the piece, for the first time, a Cyclops lens on the crystal at 3 o’clock to enhance the reading of the date. The dial also carries the name Sea-Dweller in red, a touching reference to the first model.
‘I am a personal fan of the Rolex Sea-Dweller as I have one in my own collection albeit a 2007 edition. I may be slightly biased but all for the right reasons. This is a cracking watch, with a new case size of 43mm it will make an impact on the wrist but will feel that little bit smaller than the impressive Deepsea. It’s an interesting move putting the cyclops onto the glass, which traditionally the Sea-Dweller went without, but I must say I really like this addition. It certainly gives the watch an added iconic look to it. The red writing is another great plus as it combines tradition with a modern version of a classic. This gives an added splash of colour which suits the watch perfectly. This will be and already is a highly sought after model.’
Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph DaytonaÂ
We are delighted to see three new versions of the Cosmograph Daytona. Available in 18ct yellow, white or Everose gold, these latest editions mean there is something for everyone. It’s fitted on the innovative Oysterflex bracelet in elastomer reinforced with a metal blade. This latest combines high technology and stylish aesthetics, whilst still acknowledging the rich heritage of the Cosmograph Daytona collection.
‘Now another wonderful Baselworld release. These upgrades with the ceramic bezel and the Oysterflex bracelet are superb and gives the Cosmograph Daytona an even more rugged and sporty look. This looks an awesome watch in any metal and dial combination, although my personal choice would be the white gold version. This model is iconic in any metal, maybe more famously for the steel, and these models slot straight into that category. For any Daytona collectors these are a must and certainly a watch to have in any collection. These will be very sought after and already seem to be incredibly well received.’

Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller
We are delighted to see the Sky-Dweller introduced in yellow and Rolesor versions. The classic watch for world travellers, the new dials now feature index hour markers and a luminescent Chromalight display, updating the look of the piece. To add to the modernisation, the watch hands have also been lengthened for greater visual comfort and to ensure ease of legibility.
‘Wow what a move! Having the annual calendar complication with a Ring Command Bezel in Rolesor is incredible. This I did not see coming but certainly glad it has. The innovative setting element is incredible and really must be seen. We will be more than delighted to show you the Ring Command Bezel and how the annual calendar will work. The value of this timepiece is staggering and any watch fanatic should be tempted by this. I cannot wait to see this in real life, definitely a personal favourite!’

Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41
The new generation of the classic Datejust 41 has arrived! The collection is is now available in 904L steel and white Rolesor versions. Following on from the yellow gold and Everose gold releases in 2016, we are delighted to see the steel edition now available. It’s powered by the Rolex calibre 3235 – a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology.

Lady-Datejust 28
With a wide choice of dial colours available, the new 904L steel version of the classic Lady-Datejust 28, and white Rolesor version, making this a stunning addition to the Rolex ladies collection. Slightly larger than the 2015/2016 release at 28mm, this is the perfect watch for any occasion.
Oystery Perpetual Yacht-Master II
Another addition to the Professional collection, the Yacht-Master II has seen a refreshing new look! The new dial, and new hands characteristic of Rolex Professional models, enhance the legibility and sharpen the aesthetic appeal of this unique regatta chronograph.
‘This is a subtle change with a change to the dial markers at 12 & 6 o'clock. The 12 o’clock marker has now gone to an inverted triangle giving it more presence and legibility. The same can be said for the 6 o'clock marker which has gone to an elongated baton marker. Now these changes may appear insignificant at first but compare the dials and the new dial looks fantastic and really suits the watch.’

Cellini Moonphase
A first for a Cellini model! The Cellini Moonphase, with an exclusive display of the phases of the moon, joins the beautiful collection. With the 39mm Everose gold case, the incredible new model is driven by a self-winding mechanical movement, produced and manufactured entirely by Rolex with a patented complication to display the moon’s phases. Finished on a brown alligator leather strap, this watch offers true elegance and style.
