Rolex and Wimbledon

There a few things we always associate with Wimbledon, the world's oldest and most prestigious tennis championship, aside for the great tennis – strawberries, unfortunately timed rain, celebrity spotting, and a certain watch brand whose logo is as much a part of the court as the scoreboard.

Rolex has been the official time partner of Wimbledon since 1978. As a championship that stood for the pinnacle of excellence, that partnership with the watch brand came naturally. Rolex clocks have adorned the courts and grounds ever since.

They have also supported a number of tennis stars, past and present, including Roger Federer, Milos Raonic, Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki, Tim Henman and Bjorn Borg to name a few.

Anything can happen in a top level tennis match, and Rolex have times some incredible moments in there nearly 50 year history as a partner.

The longest match in professional tennis history was at Wimbledon in 2010 between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. It went on so long that it had to be played over 3 days due to fading light. The final set went to an epic 70-68 and lasted 8 hours 11 minutes. The match lasted 11 hours 5 minutes in total, with Isner finally reaching victory after an incredible marathon.

The longest ever final was only a year before, with Roger Federer beating Andy Roddick after a four hour and 15 minute battle.

The longest ever women’s match was between Chanda Rubin and Patricia Hy-Boulais in 1995 and lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes. The longest final was in 2005, when Venus Williams beat Lindsay Davenport after 2 hours and 45 minutes.
