Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5168G

This year is a particularly special year for Patek Philippe as it is the 20th anniversary of the highly sought after Aquanaut collection. As time grew closer to the Baselworld watch fayre so did my excitement to see the new launches. I was not disappointed and in fact was hugely impressed with the Patek Philippe launch.

With it being the 20th anniversary of the Aquanaut I couldn't wait to see what was being launched and low and behold the stunning 5168G was shown. The Aquanaut is a sports model of the Patek Philippe collection and gives the wearer a casual yet elegant timepiece that can be worn for any occasion. The case size of the 5168 is slightly larger than other Aquanaut models sitting at a 42.2mm remaining true to its "Jumbo" nickname. This size certainly gives a wonderful resence on the wrist and the weight of the 18ct white gold case gives a superb feel.

This is the first time Patek Philippe have used a 18ct white gold case in the Aquanaut collection but the gently rounded octagonal bezel with vertical satin effect and polished chamfered flanks remains untouched and continues to give the iconic look we know and love. There is a subtle yet important element to look at with the 5168 and that is the beautifully graduated colour dial. The blue goes from a brighter colour in the centre and graduates out to a black. The night blue of the composite strap is the perfect comfort and aesthetical finish the watch demands and completes the finish for the timepieces.

The demand for such a watch is high and with the scarcity of timepieces around it makes the watch a superb purchase. I love the blue in this watch and the increased case size sits incredibly well on the wrist. The addition of the 5168 to the Aquanaut collection is an outstanding move and it is already a great success.
