Taking The Leap: Leap Year Proposals

Four years have been and gone, and a magical day is almost upon us once more. That's right, 2016 is a Leap Year and on February 29th women traditionally propose to their male partners.

This well worn tradition stems back to 5th century Ireland, where Saint Bridget and her female friends were fed up waiting around for their partners to propose. Bridget took her case to St Patrick, who felt sorry for her, and told her that he would permit women to propose on February 29th.

Later on in 13th century Scotland, a formal law was passed decreeing that any man refusing a proposal must pay a penalty, whether in the form of a fine, a silk dress, or a pair of gloves. How far we've come!

If you've decided to take the plunge this February, then bravo! We here at Laings salute you. Here are our top 3 picks for making it a proposal he just can't say no to:

Join them, and surprise your fiancé-to-be with a beautiful men's engagement ring. A piece like this Laings Palladium Diamond Set Ring is masculine yet decidely refined.

Capture2) Make A Fashion Statement

If your other half considers himself a bit of a fashionista, then why not suprise him with an ultra stylish ring like this Sterling Silver Iconic Thin Craft Ring by Gucci. It's the sort of splurge he might not think to make for himself, but could well end up being something that he treasures forever.
