A Heritage Passed Through Generations
Founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the Maison began as a modest workshop. The son of a Swiss farming family, Louis-Ulysse had already established himself as a notable watchmaker by the age of 24, celebrated for his exquisitely crafted chronometers and pocket watches. His remarkable skill quickly attracted international recognition, famously including the court of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia.
In 1915, leadership passed to his son, Paul-Louis Chopard, who relocated the company to Geneva, the international epicentre of watchmaking. The post-war period proved challenging for the brand, as no direct heir was willing to continue the family legacy. Chopard’s future was secured when Karl Scheufele, an accomplished goldsmith and watchmaker, acquired the Maison. His vision and craftsmanship elevated Chopard into the luxury brand recognised today.
Family Spirit
At the heart of Chopard lies its enduring family spirit, shaping the brand’s identity, heritage, and future. Since the 1980s, Karl and Karin Scheufele’s children, Caroline and Karl-Friedrich, have embodied this spirit as Co-Presidents, each bringing their own unique vision. Caroline Scheufele leads the women’s collections and oversees the development of high jewellery. Meanwhile, Karl-Friedrich manages the men’s collections and pioneered the creation of Chopard sports watches. Together, they uphold the Maison’s values of independence, passion, and excellence.

Everything piece by Chopard is meticulously crafted within the Maison’s own workshops, where more than 50 artisan skills converge, including some of the rarest and most intricate techniques in the world.
