IJL: What’s Hot?
The IJL is the premier event in the jewellery industry. Throughout the three days Laings had the opportunity to see some of the latest products, watch the jewellery dazzle on the catwalk and be inspired by a variety of seminars and talks.
But what was hot at IJL?
In the Inspiration Theatre the jewellery world discussed whether or not diamonds are still relevant – and Laings said yes!
Diamonds are the ultimate symbol of celebration, no matter the occasion. A piece of diamond jewellery will always tell a story and are often filled with romance, holding a beautiful, emotional significance. Diamonds have captured hearts for decades and this isn’t going to stop anytime soon. It is true that now people seek new, unique ways to wear diamonds, especially when it comes to engagement rings, but now there are a lot more inventive ways to wear a beautiful diamond ring! There’s exciting and distinctive designs, be that vintage-style, floral or contemporary. Diamond rings can look edgy and quirky and truly unique and if you want to really show your personality then a bespoke diamond ring is always an option. Diamonds definitely are forever.
One of the trends that you couldn’t ignore at IJL was the popularity of Pre-Owned Watches and here, the expert audience looked into why they’re becoming more and more sought-after!
Over the past few years there has been a noticeable surge in the interest in vintage and pre-owned watches, but why? A Pre-Owned watch is a great way to take your first steps into the world of watches, as you’re more than likely able to make a substantial saving on the price, than if the model was bought new. Plus if you’re looking into watches as investment pieces then a pre-owned model is a pretty safe place to start as there is a lower risk factor. They are also a luxurious, exclusive and fashionable item to own! Vintage fashion is going nowhere and this could be an ideal way to capture the look. You may be lucky enough to spot an exclusive model or stumble across a limited edition. Either way it’s fantastic to own something that tells a story and the popularity of Pre-Owned is going nowhere.
It’s not just diamonds that were hot topics at IJL, jewellers from all over also can’t resist the allure of ruby, sapphire and emerald!
Gemstones have fascinated people for centuries and through the years different stories and associations have become attached to different stones, making them even more special! Ruby promotes love, health and wisdom, whilst Sapphire stones are all about sincerity, truth and loyalty and Emeralds are associated with foresight, good fortune and youth. Gemstones are still adored today and for many people they hold a special place, whether this is because the stone is a birthstone, or simply because they love the beautiful colours! Ruby, sapphire and emerald gemstones definitely still hold allure, making a really unique and individual gift!
And who did we bump into…
IJL is filled with a huge selection of jewellery traders, businesses and designers and we managed to spy Deakin and Francis amongst them all!
Deakin and Francis have been producing some of the world’s finest cufflinks since 1786 and Laings is proud to stock the fun brand! They were at IJL with their own stand to meet the jewellery industry, as well as featuring on the catwalk! Their fun, unique and quirky cufflinks are perfect for adding a bit of personality to any occasion! From grinning sharks and bright red guitars to fishing fly cufflinks you’re bound to find a pair to suit you!
