How to find the perfect ring size
In the UK we work with the alphabetical size chart and our Laings of Glasgow rings are available in sizes H - Z+
Without a doubt the most accurate way to be sized is to have it done by a professional jeweller.
Here we have a comprehensive guide on all you will need to know about re-sizing rings - Â as you will find with the majority of fine jewellers we do not stock each ring in every size, most rings are one-off items which can often require re-sizing. There is no need to have any fear about alterations as they are quite safe if done professionally and it will not affect the quality of the ring, the only hurdle can sometimes be the timescale, so our no.1 TIP is to give yourself plenty of time to select the perfect ring for you and allow a window of time for potential re-sizing.
FOR YOU - A ring should be a comfortable fit on the finger, tight enough so it will not fall off, but loose enough to fit over the knuckle. TIP: Â It is worth remembering that your finger size can fluctuate during the day according to your temperature so it is advised to have yourself measured at the end of the day when your fingers are warmer.
SURPRISE HER/HIM - First off, find out if someone close to them already knows, but if not use a ring they already have for that finger and use the ring size guide to determine what size it is. TIP: Remember if you are measuring their size using a ring worn on their right-hand it is best to go one size down from that, as a right handed person will typically have a smaller left hand and vice-versa for lefty's.
COMPLIMENTARY RE-SIZING - Laings of Glasgow offer the first re-size absolutely FREE OF CHARGE, any further size adjustments maybe subject to charge but this should be no more than £35. Re-sizing is done either by the supplier of the ring itself or our own trusted jeweller so you will be in the safest of hands.
TIMESCALE - The timescales will depend on the individual ring, however it usually ranges from 1-2 days to 5 working days - there is a small selection of rings that will either need to be custom made or specially ordered which could take approx.12 weeks, however all  Laings customers are immediately informed of potential waiting times.
THE UNSIZABLES - On occasion you will come across a ring that cannot be altered, often eternity rings cannot be re-sized due to the nature of the setting, any manipulation of the metal can potentially compromise the security of the gemstones. This does not apply to all eternity rings, a small change to the size may not cause any problems however it is best to seek professional advice before agreeing to re-sizing. Fashion rings are also not good candidates for re-sizing as you will often find that the metal used is electro-plated and this will not allow for any alteration, it is always best to request a special order in your true size. The last I will mention in this rogues gallery is the patterned band, any ring with a design encircling the entire ring is not recommended for sizing as it will disturb the continuity of the pattern.
