Five Iconic Watches from Film

As the Oscars approaches, we take a look at some of the iconic timepieces that have graced the big screen, worn on the wrists of much-loved heroes. From sporty timepieces that are fit for all adventures, to intricate and sophisticated wristwatches, this list entails some of watchmaking’s finest features.

No Time to Die - OMEGA Seamaster Diver

When discussing watches in film, it is only right to mention one of film's most iconic characters whose watches became just as memorable as the hero themselves. In Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie, No Time to Die, he wears the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m. Crafted from strong yet lightweight Titanium and featuring a magnetic resistant movement, this timepiece is extremely fitting for a character who is no stranger to adventure.

The Gray Man - TAG Heuer Carrera

In The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling embodies the role of a freelance assassin and ex-CIA operative, donning the iconic TAG Heuer Carrera throughout the entire film. This timepiece seamlessly merges sleek sophistication with precision engineered for athletic prowess, making it the ideal accessory for the stylish and agile character portrayed by Gosling. Despite TAG Heuer initially considering a different timepiece for the star, Gosling's taste prevailed as he believed the Carrera truly encapsulated the essence of his character.

Doctor Strange - JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual

For a hero characterised by his wit, intelligence, and mysticism, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual is the perfect timepiece, admired for its exceptional innovation and craftsmanship. While the timepiece worn in the film was customised to suit the dangers the character would face throughout, it still featured the impressive complications that make the original watch so special. The JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual features the month, Year, Moon phase and Perpetual Calendar, an incredibly sophisticated watch suited to a character with the ability to bend time.

Top Gun Maverick - IWC Pilot

For a film centred around the perils of naval aviation, a watch created for the wrists of pilot's was the perfect choice to feature throughout. IWC’s Pilots collection was born to serve as navigation instruments for aviators, with many of the timepieces donning features like large onion crowns, incredibly legible dials and exceptional timekeeping. In Top Gun Maverick, Miles Teller’s character can be seen wearing the IWC "Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor" Mark XVIII, a timepiece exclusively available to the graduates of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN).

North by Northwest - Cartier Tank

In the timeless classic film North by Northwest, Cary Grant elevates his on-screen persona as Roger Thornhill, a successful executive, by adorning the epitome of sophistication – the Cartier Tank. Grant’s character graces the screen in sleek and classic suits, effortlessly complementing the Cartier Tank’s enduring elegance. This iconic timepiece, transcending fleeting trends, stands as the ultimate gentleman’s accessory, epitomising both style and timeless refinement.
