Cartier 2017 - The Panthère Collection

Cartier are world renowned for being many things – classic, chic, and cool are just a few words to describe this brand. They have produced an incredible range of watches since their founding in 1847, including the Tank (whose 100th anniversary is coming up in September), the Ballon BleuSantos, Ronde, and finally the Panthère de Cartier.

We didn't know what to expect this year from Cartier at the SIHH 2017 show. However we were delighted to see that they had brought back the Panthère de Cartier collection as a focus for the year ahead. They have revived this iconic collection with great enthusiasm, and in a stunning range of metals and finishes and we are delighted that they a limited quantity are now available in store.

The Panthère de Cartier watch collection was first launched in 1983, and was in production all the way through the early 2000s, when it was sadly discontinued. We are delighted that Cartier have now reinstated the Panthère watch collection! The panther was first used in a watercolour painting commissioned by Louis Cartier back in 1914 (Woman With A Panther, by George Barbier) and Mr. Cartier liked the image so much that it soon became the classic symbol of the brand. Later that year, the first "Panther" piece was crafted by Cartier – which was a bracelet watch, set with onyx and
diamonds.

The new Panthère will come in two sizes, small and medium, measuring 22mm and 27mm in diameter. Both sizes feature the same square case with screwed-down bezel and linked brick-lay bracelet with concealed folding clasp. The Panthère is available in a variety of metals and finishes such as yellow gold, rose gold, rose gold with diamond bezel and many other combinations. There is also a limited edition rose gold with black lacquered links that we can’t wait to see!

Cartier being Cartier, there are also several models which are more directly inspired by the spotted panther motif. These have been extensively explored by Cartier's legendary and charismatic design director, Jeanne Toussaint. This is a very welcome re-edition to the Cartier line, which, next to the Tank, is one of the most classic ladies' watches.
