Baselworld Round-Up
Baselworld is arguably one of the most important dates in the watch world’s calendar. Every year the very best brands from the world of horology gather in the Swiss city to show-off their latest releases. The eagerly anticipated week sets the tone for the coming year revealing the trends that we’ll be seeing in the coming months. It’s an unrivalled international platform for the key players in the business and Laings was lucky enough to be there!
Here’s our top picks from some of the most prestigious brands that were at Baselworld...
Patek Philippe is one of the most revered Swiss watch brands. They are all about tradition, quality and rarity and their new pieces are always met with a sense of wonder.
CALATRAVA “SQUELETTE” 5180/1R-001

The subtle re-working of the 6000 series made its debut at Baselworld 2017. The sleek and elegant design has a classic round white-gold case that’s been enlarged to 39mm and truly stands out on the wrist. The larger dial also helps to show-off the dial design with the sophisticated black ebony and silver finish and the subsidiary seconds dial that sits between 4 and 5 o’clock.
CALATRAVA “SQUELETTE” 5180/1R-001
The skeletonization of the design elegantly shows-off the ultra-thin self-winding caliber 240 movement. The new 18ct rose gold case frames the unique dial with its delicate transparency. The Calatrava cross, which has been a registered Patek Philippe trademark for over 100 years, is also easily seen. The intricate and elaborate engravings add to its aesthetic appeal, creating a truly beautiful watch with impressive mechanical functions.

COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA
YACHT-MASTER 40COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA
With a blend of high technology and sleek aesthetics the Daytona is finished with the oysterflex bracelet and cerachrom bezel. The innovative oysterflex bracelet is made from elastomer that’s reinforced with a metal blade and the cerachrom bezel, which was developed and patented by Rolex is finished in black ceramic. The exceptional watch pays tribute to the heritage of the legendary chronograph.
YACHT-MASTER 40
Inspired by the iconic nautical watch the new Yacht-Master has a gem-set bezel that creates a multi-coloured hue. The rotatable bezel is adorned with multi-coloured sapphire and green tsavorites with a diamond at 12 o’clock. The Everose gold version is completed with an Oysterflex bracelet, creating a stylish finish.
Tudor is known for its adventurous heritage and technical prowess. Born out of the Rolex family their watches are defined by stylish reliability and precision.
CLAIR DE ROSE
BLACK BAY S&GCLAIR DE ROSE
Tudor revisited the Clair de Rose line to create this timeless and refined version that was revealed at Baselworld 2017. Redesigned with a stainless steel case the dial has been completed with blue hands to match the hour-markers with delicate decorations finishing the look. The ‘beads of rice’ stainless steel bracelet beautifully completes the elegant and refined design.
BLACK BAY S&G
One of the latest Black Bay releases, unveiled at Baselworld, acts as a reinterpretation of the historical Tudor diving watches. The ‘snowflake’ signature hands were first introduced in 1969, whilst the bracelet is inspired by collectors’ favourite 50’s folded rivet bracelet. However, in a new move Tudor introduced the date function for the first time in the Black Bay family.
CHANEL
CHANEL is one of the most celebrated high-fashion watch brands, with timepieces that are both fashionable and reliable.
BOY-FRIEND TWEED BEIGE GOLD
MONSIEURBOY-FRIEND TWEED BEIGE GOLD
The blurring of masculine and feminine styles is intrinsic to CHANEL and the unique allure of the Boy-Friend perfectly captures the spirit of the brand. The strap of the watch takes inspiration from, the traditionally masculine, tweed, whilst the dial has an elegant and understated design. The new Boy-Friend is finished in beige gold, one of the brands most emblematic colours.
MONSIEUR
The Monsieur timepiece embodies perfect geometry, flawless circularity and sleek digital graphics. Completed with the first caliber, in-house movement by CHANEL the watch is crowned with the seal of a lion, the emblem of the House’s Haute Horlogerie movements. CHANEL describes it as “elegant and meticulous from front to back”.
TAG have a heritage built on pushing boundaries and year after year they bring out watches that seem to break the standard watchmaking conventions.
AQUARACER 300M CAMO & KHAKI

This Aquaracer embraces the commando style with an arctic or jungle version of the watch with the sports timepiece being given a fashionable update. The Aquaracer collection has been evolving since 2003 and it offers everything that you’d expect from an all-terrain watch. It’s a watch for extreme conditions and the custom pattern perfectly reflects the spirit of the timepiece.
LINK LADY
For the first time the Link Lady collection from TAG features bright colours with a navy blue sunray finish or pink mother of pearl, helping to bring the dial to life. The reworked legendary Link design still features the famous signature bracelet with S-shaped links, a design that dates back to 1987. With a few subtle updates the graceful and chic watch has become one of the most feminine watches from TAG’s collections.
