Audrey, Marilyn & Jackie - Our Ultimate Style Icons

What makes a style icon? We think it’s a healthy dose of notoriety combined with a forward thinking approach to fashion. So we’ve narrowed down decades of style icons to just three ladies that we feel epitomise timeless glamour. Their personal style choices have made a huge impact on popular culture and influenced women around the world. So Audrey, Marilyn, Jackie - we salute you for setting trends rather than following them.

Audrey Hepburn was universally popular for wearing clothes her own way rather than conforming to the defining looks of her time. Her slender shape and masculine style choices stood out when compared with the curves of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. Her clothes were comfortable yet supremely elegant and she specifically wore pieces that highlighted her elfin features, like cropped trousers, ballet flats and roll neck jumpers. Who can forget the classic little black dress and oversized sunglasses she wore playing Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's? Accessorised with five strings of beautiful pearls clasped around her delicate neck. If she were here today we think Audrey would snap up our D.Ammo 18ct White Gold Pearl & Diamond Double-Strand Necklet, don’t you?audrey hepburn vanity fair

Audrey’s androgynous look was the complete antithesis of Marilyn’s. Blonde bombshell, Marilyn Monroe exuded sex appeal and heavily influenced fashion trends during her short and turbulent life. Iconic outfits from the flowing white halter neck dress worn in ‘The Seven Year Itch’ to the pink satin strapless dress with long gloves and layers of jewellery in ‘Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend’ cemented Marilyn’s position as a Hollywood screen siren. The Golden Globe winner was often photographed wearing diamonds much like this show stopping Laings 18ct White Gold Square Diamond Pave Cluster Pendant. Her penchant for skin tight skirts and dresses emphasised her womanly shape and made Marilyn as famous for her figure as her performance on screen. Although Marilyn’s life was blighted by rocky romances and a long term battle with mental illness her signature style left a fashionable legacy even she couldn’t have predicted.marilyn monroe diamonds

From a Hollywood starlet to First Lady Jackie Kennedy (widely known as ‘Jackie O’) who glamorised the world of politics with her sartorial style choices. Before Jackie came along politician’s wives often remained in their husband’s shadows, so her show stopping designer wardrobe of empire waisted gowns and streamlined suits attracted a huge fan base. Her ladylike demeanour was complemented by her Dior, Givenchy and Chanel outfit. The latter was responsible for her most iconic look, the pink boucle suit and matching pillbox hat she was wearing when her husband JFK was assassinated.jackie o pearls

Jackie was quite the catch. She grew up in high society between New York and East Hampton and was debutante of the year in 1947. Her imitable style evolved from elegant couture as a First Lady to relaxed all-American basics when working as a Book Editor in New York. If she were with us today we think she’d admire Kate Middleton’s classic style and this elegant Laings 18ct White Gold 1.04ct Sapphire and 0.23ct Diamond Square Pendant.
