IWC – Watches to Look Out For
IWC was a stand-out brand for our Senior Watch Sales Consultant, Haydn Ashcroft. He caught up with the luxurious watch makers at the SIHH, or Salon International de Haute Horologie, to give it its proper name.
IWC was founded in 1868 in Switzerland, Schaffhausen. Priding themselves on innovation and technical inventiveness they fuse American pioneering with Swiss tradition, creating a really stunning collection of watches.
Their Pilot Collection has recently had an overhaul. Harking back to their aviation heritage the new designs pay homage to the original watch. Here’s our pick of the bunch…
IW324001 – Pilot 36 Automatic
This is the smallest watch in the current portfolio and is ideal as a ladies watch or for a gentleman with a smaller wrist. It’s a beautifully understated and classic design, with a simple and stylish watch-face that isn’t in any way cluttered. The luxurious brown alligator strap by Santoni and the slate-coloured dial provide a sophisticated aesthetic that can be appreciated by both men and women.
IW327001 – Pilot Mark XVIII Strap Watch
The Pilot Mark XVIII offers down-to-the-second accuracy, it is precise, robust and has temperature resistant and water-resistant features. On the face all the elements sit perfectly together with bold numbers on the dial. It looks a lot more like the original 1940’s model, which was the design used by the military. Now it boasts a stainless steel case and black calfskin strap with a black dial and stand-out white numerals. It’s an elegant, simple and stylish design.
IW377709 – Big Pilot
IWC removed the triple date window from the previous model, now with just the date and day display, giving the watch a much more classic look. There’s also three chronographs, with the dial in general being much cleaner. Plus it has a stop-watch function and is water-resistant up to 60 metres. The stainless steel case and black calfskin strap on this classic watch is perfect for everyday wear.
And a very special watch to look out for…
IW459006 – Portofino Moon Phase 37 Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation"
This stunning special edition watch was created to celebrate the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Berlin, a foundation which helps children in disadvantaged places improve their lives with sports-related projects. The design, that’s limited to 1,500 watches, features the moon display on the dial and the unmistakable beautiful Laureus blue, with the hours being indicated by dazzling diamonds. Combined with the blue alligator strap IWC have created a truly elegant watch. Engraved on the back case is the winning design from their children’s drawing competition, acting as a reminder that a portion of the proceeds support social projects. A striking watch with a beautiful distinctive feature.
