175 NECKLET
We have something very exciting to share with all our customers in Edinburgh and beyond. As many of you know we are celebrating 175 years of Laing and as such, we needed something very special to commemorate the event. It has always been Michael’s (OBE and owner here at Laing Edinburgh) dream to create a piece to commemorate such a pinnacle in the company’s life, and that’s exactly what he’s done! Designing a piece that will go down in history as a work of art as well as a show stopping piece of jewellery seems like the perfect way to celebrate our birthday - with a huge sparkle. It has taken nine months from design to finished piece but today but we are delighted that we can finally unveil the stunning necklet that will mark such a special time here at Laing.
As this piece is to celebrate our 175th anniversary, it is clearly one of a kind and unlike anything else every created. Like our Family collections, the Laing family were the inspiration behind the 175 piece. The Seven represents the seven most loved ladies of Laing including Michael’s wife, daughters and granddaughters. However the size and scale is unlike anything that has ever been created before and the level of workmanship, knowledge and skill is apparent in every detail. It was designed by five specialists in Edinburgh, with every single diamond being hand set in the workshop here. Together, we have the 175 Necklet.

The necklet reflects the depth of history of the company and the experience that has been gained during our journey to get to where we are today! However, it also looks to the future and this is can be seen in the way the piece mixes modern and classic styles. For example, the twist sections - on one side it has diamonds and the other side is polished, representing the edginess of Laing, whereas the drop at the back is very classic. It demonstrates all of the different sides of Laing; the modern, the classic, and the quirky.
With 447 round brilliant cut including pavé diamonds set in 18ct white gold with a dramatic double diamond drop, it manages to balance classic elegance with show stopping beauty simultaneously. As with all diamonds at Laing, every diamond was hand selected by Michael and his son, Richard in Antwerp. The centre focus of the necklace is the set 2 and 3 carat diamond cross over sections at the centre, weighing a total of 25 carats. This gives the piece extra drama and emphasises its specialness and significance. The clasp of the necklet also offers something special as it is engraved with 1840 on the outside and 2015 on the inside, with the pin hole positioned within the date. This is hidden under a beautiful sapphire and this surprise element epitomises the attention to detail and quirky little touches.
This incredible piece will be on display at the new show room on George Street which is due to open later this year. With such exciting times at Laing it is easy to see why we are going from strength to strength and our customers are continually coming back to celebrate with us. We couldn’t agree more with Michael when he described the 175 necklet as ‘the most meaningful piece we’ve ever designed’.
