The Laings Journal
Laings of Glasgow recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Phoebe Miller, owner of So You’re Getting Married, to chat about her thoughts on all things wedding related.
Her blog, dedicated to bringing you daily doses of pretty things from around the wedding world, has gone from strength to strength in recent months having recently won at Cosmopolitan’s 2014 Blog Awards.
Find out what trends she has identified for wedding rings, as well as tips for choosing a venue…
What’s your favourite aspect of blogging about all things weddings?
This is such a hard question! I think it has to be helping couples share and re-live their wedding day months later. You kind of get post-wedding blues so I feel having your wedding blogged helps alleviate that. I also love sharing all the hard work of suppliers involved in weddings and styled shoots.
Do you have an all-time favourite wedding that you have featured?
I do. It was a very intimate wedding of just four guests at Manchester town hall shot by Darren Mack. Whilst I love blogging huge, detail filled weddings, it is nice to be reminded why we get married as we can sometimes get lost in all the glitter.
Is there a particular wedding theme you would choose for yourself?
I am a big fan of a non-theme theme. I had everything I loved at my wedding and it turned out perfectly, when the theme is you as a couple nothing can go wrong and the day will end up meaning more.
Do you often see trends for wedding dresses year to year?
I do, this year wedding separates are very popular. So teaming a top, sometimes slightly cropped with billowing skirts. A few years ago Kate Middleton majorly influenced the come-back of long lace sleeves.
Do you think wedding jewellery is important to brides?
Oh definitely, from the fiancé choosing the engagement ring to the placing of wedding rings on the day itself. Styles can change so make sure you choose something timeless as you will be wearing it for decades to come!
From all the brides you have featured what seems to be the most popular engagement ring style?
If they are American brides then halo rings, with diamond bands seem to be really popular, with British brides I would say I see quite a lot of vintage rings or classic diamond solitaires.
Do you think plain or diamond wedding bands have been more common for brides in recent years?
Actually I have seen quite a lot of both. I think it depends on the bride.
What do you think is most important when it comes to choosing a venue?
Something within budget, something that is big enough and something that is a blank canvas and can be turned in to anything the couple desire. They are always my favourite venues, I love seeing how each couple style the same venue so differently.
From someone who sees dozens of weddings what is your favourite part of a wedding?
Without a doubt, the moment the couple see each other for the first time in the church. The look on their faces is a reminder of why we get married and commit our love to one person.
What would be your number one piece of advice to give to a bride before her big day?
Everyone will tell you this, but the day really does fly by. Just take a moment out, to sit and breathe. Also try and get a few moments alone with your new husband or wife, even if it is just a quick kiss on a bench.
