When footballer Wayne Rooney married Coleen McLoughlin, they flew their friends and family out to Italy to watch them tie the knot. The celebrations stretched over four days and including a party on a multi-million pound yacht. Add to this a custom fitted wedding dress, and a performance by Coleen’s favourite band, Westlife, and it is easy to see how they managed to spend £5 million.

3) Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries - £6 million / Kim Kardashian & Kanye West - £1.7 million

Kim Kardashian is known for her lavish lifestyle, and this definitely extends to her 2011 wedding to Kris Humphries, which reportedly cost £6 million. This marriage only lasted 72 days however, so when it was announced that she was set to wed again, this time to the king of excess, Kanye West, people were dying to find out the total sum. The ceremony alone was estimated to cost £1.7 million, but this doesn’t take into account the week they spent in Paris prior to the big day!

2) Petra Ecclestone & James Stunt - £12 million

Coming in at number two is Petra Ecclestone and James Stunt, who arranged to have an entire medieval town in Italy closed for their big day. The ceremony took place in a castle, with Petra wearing a Vera Wang dress. Entertainment was provided by the Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta, while guests sipped from bottles of $6,000 champagne!

Many of us dream of having a wedding “fit for a queen”, but for Kate Middleton, this was a reality. Her 2011 wedding to Prince William reportedly cost a whopping £20 million, with a large portion of this figure being spent on security for the big day.
