Chopard L.U.C – A Legend of Haute Horology

Laings is honoured to be presenting the Chopard L.U.C collection for the first time, exclusively in Edinburgh and Cardiff. An incredible opportunity for watch enthusiasts to experience the prestigious watch series, Laings is home to the rare complications and evolutionary innovation that shape the L.U.C collection.

Named after its founder, Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the L.U.C is an elegant and refined tribute to the heritage of the Maison, honouring its watchmaking roots in a timeless and exquisitely crafted collection.

Watchmaking Heritage

Louis-Ulysse Chopard created the brand with watchmaking at its roots, with a reputation as notable artisan watchmaker, creating works of art with innovative designs as well as building precise and reliable timepieces. Decades later in 1996, Chopard’s Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele honoured the watchmaking heritage of the brand by once again producing an in-house calibre in the creation of the L.U.C watch collection. The introduction of the L.U.C collection marked a pivotal time in the Maison’s history, establishing Chopard’s independence and instilling its place as experts of fine watchmaking in terms of movement creation, development and production.

Still seen across the collection today, the characteristic beehive design of the logo is emblematic for the creation of the Chopard manufacture. Referencing the industrious, honest and modest nature of bees, the logo represents the building of a strong future of Chopard.

Timeless Elegance

25 years on from the creation of the first L.U.C timepiece, the collection remains true to its founding design, based on understated elegance and exquisite refinement. The collection is characterised by its dauphine-fusée-style hands and crested lugs, which both enhance the robust feel of the watch when seen from the top and add contour to the side view.

Rare and Exceptional Craft

From movement development to final assembly, the workshops in Geneva and Fleurier carry out each step with the utmost precision and care. Epitomising the highest standards of Swiss watchmaking, Chopard’s L.U.C collection presents some of the rarest traditional handcrafts, such as Grand Feu enamelling, Fleurisanne engraving and côtes de Genêve. These skills demonstrate the ultimate degree of mechanical sophistication, with timepieces that are the product of meticulous workmanship carried out by dedicated Chopard artisans.

“The L.U.C Collection represents a true concentration of horological mastery and artistic emotions.”

– Karl-Friedrich Scheufele

Chopard’s commitment to excellence is prevalent in the L.U.C collection, with 11 movement families in over 80 variations present in the watch series. Throughout these families, pioneering innovations created in the manufacture continue to be unmatched in precision and finesse. Chopard’s Twin and Quattro technologies enable the L.U.C watches to host some of the most impressive power reserves in haute horology of up to 216 hours, a remarkable feature which is unmatched by many.

This year, Chopard honoured the 25th anniversary of the L.U.C with a ground-breaking series of chiming watches. The introduction of the sapphire gong allowed the L.U.C to enter into a journey of eternity, with the technology maintaining a homogeneous sound quality over time – a pioneering advancement in the horological world.
