Rediscover Romance with Idyllic Escapes on your Doorstep

As winter melts away, spring brings the promise of sunshine and colourful blooms. With longer days and rising temperatures, this season is perfect for making memories. What better way to explore our beautiful country than with a spring staycation?

Here we look at everything from coastal cliffs to seaside stays for our top three British road trips this spring.

Seaside Stays

Famed for its quaint towns and sandy beaches, the Jurassic coast of England is a haven for staycation holiday makers. No matter what direction you come from, the drive to this slice of paradise will be filled with stunning scenery and unrivalled views. There are a multitude of places along the way that are perfect for a sun-soaked break – our favourite is Lyme Regis.

Lyme Regis

The picturesque town is full of character, complete with pastel-coloured houses, charming boutiques and a bustling harbour. Get lost in the historic sights of the museum or go rock hopping at The Cobb for memories of adventure that will last a lifetime. Taking a tour of these iconic seaside towns will undoubtedly leave you with a newfound appreciation for the great British coastline.

City Getaways

For a break with plenty to see and do, the west country counties of Somerset and Avon radiate traditional England. With scattered cities nestled within fields of verdant countryside, there is something for everyone. The nearby hubs of Bath and Bristol bring together their contrasting personalities to create a magnificent city getaway.

Bath is a Georgian city full of timeless beauty, which encapsulates centuries past with its neo-classical architecture and heritage. You can easily spend an afternoon strolling around the sweeping crescents and terraced circuses with an accompaniment from the legendary Landrance bakery. For a more historic expedition, visit the celebrated Roman Baths. The Baths make up the foundations of the ancient city and a trip to the Thermal Spa, to relax in the rich mineral waters, is the perfect Bath experience.

Bath roadtrip

In contrast to Bath’s historic beginnings, Bristol boasts a DNA of creative spirit and irreverent independence that make it a top destination for a spring staycation. An enviable food scene makes use of the surrounding landscape for quality produce through artisanal coffee shops, contemporary bistros and gourmet restaurants. For an immersive day trip, visit the city’s PaintWorks. An abstract venue that nurtures creativity, the space is home to innovative events, bright buildings and eccentric eateries. If you are an art enthusiast or culinary connoisseur, a visit to this city is one you don’t want to miss.

Bristol

Coastal cool

Scotland is home to some of the most breath taking scenery in Britain, with rolling hills and enchanting lochs, it is the perfect place to spend some time this spring. One of the country’s newer road trips is the South West Coastal 300. Touted as the little brother to the infamous North Coast 500, the trip routes through Dumfries and South Ayrshire for an unforgettable experience. Think winding coastlines, sandy shores and rugged cliffs, enjoy the splendid views of Sandyhills bay, Victorian charm of Kurcudbright and the historic Southerness.
