But how do you decide on the sparkling pieces that will become items to cherish for years and generations to come?
Laings are experts when it comes to all things ‘wedding’. We’ve been on beautiful journeys with so many couples, helping them to find a sparkling engagement ring, choosing the perfect wedding rings and guiding them through some exciting Wedding Day gifts.
Here Senior Marketing Executive, Kirsten Woods, tells us all about her Wedding Journey with Laings and the special pieces that now hold cherished memories.
The Engagement Ring
“You’d think that after working with jewellery every day that I’d have been very particular about the exact engagement ring I wanted. Although I did drop little hints here and there the only thing I was adamant about was that it was to be rose gold. The metal you choose helps to create the look of the ring and I was head-over-heels for its romantic blush.
Another thing that was important to me was the quality of the diamond. Knowing about and understanding the 5C’s meant that I knew what difference a high-quality diamond makes, allowing it to sparkle and shine beautifully. With these two things in mind my husband-to-be visited Laings with a good idea of what I was looking for. The possibilities are endless when it comes to engagement rings and Laings really did help him to get it just right.
With a glass of champagne in hand, just as the sun was starting to set on the Croatian coast I said 'yes!' to the most perfect engagement ring.
The Wedding Bands
The wedding planning had begun! The date was set, dress bought, photographer booked and one thing I was looking forward to ticking off the to-do list was getting our wedding rings. However, there was one catch my husband-to-be wasn’t sure if he wanted to wear one. This is often the first piece of jewellery that a man might wear and many grooms may feel more hesitant when it comes to ring shopping.
We decided to make a day of it, heading through to Laings Edinburgh showroom with a lunch booked in for after. Here we were treated to the ‘Laings Experience’ with a glass of champagne as we relaxed into the indulgent surroundings – he was beginning to enjoy jewellery shopping a lot more!
We talked through the whole collection, going over the pros and cons of each metal, talking about the different looks (brushed and polished metal) and trying on rings of different widths. It was lovely to see him become more excited by the thought of wearing a wedding ring and truly enjoy the experience. It’s so amazing to choose the rings that you’ll wear to mark your life together and after his initial reservations he never takes his ring off.
The Wedding Gifts
The jewellery that you wear on your Wedding Day will always hold special memories and take you back to the day and although we'd said that we weren't going to do wedding gifts, it's hard to resist...
I knew that I wanted to wear a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings that my parents had given me for my 21st birthday – my something old and a special piece of jewellery to me. However, on the morning of the wedding my bridesmaids walked in with a little blue bag that I recognised straight away as ‘Laings’. I teared up almost immediately and was so overwhelmed when I opened the box to find a gorgeous ANNA ROSE GOLD DIAMOND CLUSTER PENDANT from the groom. Luckily it looked amazing with my dress and perfectly complemented the diamond studs! It’s such an amazing gift to receive, matching my engagement ring and bringing together the full story. I love wearing it again and again and it always takes me back to this amazing moment.
The groom didn’t miss out though! I’d always said that I was going to treat him to a luxury watch that would hold his special memories of the day. He already has an OMEGA SPEEDMASTER that he received as a 21st gift from his parents, so he wanted to go for a completely different style. This time he was looking for a more classic look, a timeless design with a leather strap. Again, we were treated to the amazing ‘Laings Experience’ and he was taken through all the different collections and tried on a handsome array of timepieces, finally deciding on an IWC PORTOFINO with its ageless design. With its subtle touches of rose gold, it’s also a beautiful match to my bridal set. It looked fantastic on the day with his kilt and was perfect for when he was counting the minutes until I arrived – I promise I wasn’t too late!
I’ve always loved jewellery. There’s a certain magic to sentimental pieces and it’s amazing how they can transport you to all kinds of beautiful memories. The stories that our Wedding Jewellery tells will be passed down for generations and are truly items that I’ll treasure forever.”
