Looking Back - 2018 at Laings

Looking back on 2018, it’s been a really important year for us and we’ve had a busy, but exciting time re-introducing ourselves as one brand and one family business. We’re delighted to be able to share such a fantastic round-up of the year with you!

One Laings Brand

Nearing the end of 2017 we saw the acquisition of Laing Edinburgh and Parkhouse Southampton and Cardiff by Laings of Glasgow, bringing the businesses back together since their spilt in 2005. As the two businesses grew separately over the past 13 years they adopted different branding, but 2018 was the year when we could bring everything back together and move forward as Laings. The re-branding of the business was a huge project this year, but we’re delighted that we’re now moving forward as Laings, with one identity that you’ll find across all stores, social media platforms and all other touchpoints. We’re now more recognisable than ever across the whole UK.

2018

A New Look for Stores

Our new branding also meant a new look for some of our stores and we transformed our Glasgow Flagship and Cardiff stores. The indulgent new look ensured that all customers could enjoy a luxurious shopping experience in the most indulgent of surroundings. The Cardiff store has a fresh new look, with wonderful displays showing our collection of prestigious watch and jewellery brands, as well as Laings beautiful diamond collection. The Glasgow store now boasts dedicated areas for Patek Philippe and Rolex, as well as a private space for customers to discuss their valuation and bespoke design needs. Now wherever you’re shopping you’ll know it’s a Laings store you’re visiting.

Beating Heartbreak Forever

As a growing family business, we realise the importance of giving back and in 2018 we were delighted to announce our charity partnership with the British Heart Foundation, a charity that’s important to both the Laing family and many members of the Laings team. We began our partnership in 2018, but we’re looking forward to raising more vital funds to support the life-saving research that the British Heart Foundation carries out, helping to beat heartbreak forever.

A Whole Host of Events

Another highlight of the year was hosting a range of spectacular events for our clients. We were honoured to share exclusive Baselworld collections in some incredible settings, including The Clydeside Distillery and Mansfield Traquair. We treated guests to new Patek Philippe launches and some special stars from the world of rugby joined us for an exclusive Tudor event. In Cardiff we also invited clients to join us at the Celtic Manor Celebrity Golf Cup, where we sponsored Team Scotland, as well as welcoming customers to the historic Cornerstone for an evening filled with scintillating diamonds and amazing timepieces.

A Very Special Award2018

We celebrated some very special news this year when our Executive Chairman, Stuart Laing was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Honours List for his services to the UK jewellery industry. Since joining the family business in 1970, Stuart has made a tremendous impact within the industry as a whole and has become one of the most respected names in the world of watches and jewellery. Alongside his role at Laings he founded the Houlden Group, whilst also giving expert advice across the industry. We could not be more proud!
