Sharing Your Engagement Ring on Instagram

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a photographer, or even just handy with a smart phone camera, then Instagram is probably going to be your platform of choice when it comes to sharing the first glimpse of your engagement ring.

There's so many stunning snaps on Instagram of sparkling rings with beautiful backgrounds, and short but sweet captions to let everyone know that you said "Yes!" If you're looking for creative ways to share your news with the world, or just want to take a snap that you can look back on for years to come, here's our top tips for getting the perfect picture of your engagement ring that you'll cherish the memories of forever.

engagement ringChoose Your Background Wisely

When choosing where to take your picture, choose your background wisely. You want a background that lets the ring do the talking, but is equally part of the picture. The best choice is to make the background something/somewhere that is relevant to you as a couple or your engagement.

If your partner proposed somewhere with a significant meaning to the two of you, you might want to capture that location in the background of your shot, however if you really want to let your ring be the focal point, keep the background plain and simple.

Get the Lighting Right

Not every Instagram picture requires a full photoshoot set up, but when it comes to taking the best picture possible of your new sparkling accessory, then getting the lighting just right is key to getting the perfect picture.

Natural sunlight is ideal for ring pictures, especially if you’re sporting a dazzling diamond, as the sun will reflect beautifully off the diamond and enhance the sparkle in the picture, but if you can’t get any sun, then as much natural daylight as you can find is best as it will show the ring at is best.

Make the Ring the Focusengagement ring

Seeing as the whole idea of the post is to share the happy news of your engagement, you want the ring to be the focus of the picture. Try not to busy the picture with too many other things that could take away from the ring, and if you do want to have a few other elements in the picture, keep them relevant to either weddings or your engagement.

Some people choose to use art work or letters in a proposal, which make perfect additions to a photo alongside your ring.

Don’t Over Edit

All engagement rings are stunning in their own way unique way, and don’t need any kind of editing to enhance their appearance, keeping the picture natural and unedited will show your ring off in its truest form. If you have high standards for your Instagram feed, and highly edited snaps are your usual style then there’s nothing wrong with a little tweak to the brightness, or blurring out the background to help the ring stand out, but keeping these kinds of pictures natural and uncut is often the best way.

Make it Personal to You

The key thing about photographing your ring and sharing your engagement with social media with a picture is to make it personal to you, your relationship and your proposal. If you’re not a highly edited kind of person, then don’t make the picture that way, keep it true to your usual style of photographs.

We hope these top tips have given you some inspiration on how to take the perfect picture of your engagement ring to help you share the news with the world.
