Which Gold Is Right for You?

Shopping for an engagement ring can seem a little overwhelming, but the first decision you make should be what colour of gold you want. From there things tend to fall into place! There’s three options when it comes to gold – yellow, white and rose – it’s difficult to go wrong with a glittering diamond so the gold you choose is just as important (if not more so!) than the beautiful gemstone. The colour that you choose dictates the overall style of the ring. Most people will have a favourite that they enjoy wearing and it’s all about personal preference. If you’re feeling stuck look at the jewellery she already wears, what colour does she seem to favour?

GoldYELLOW GOLD

Yellow is considered the most traditional choice and historically it was the most popular option. At one point yellow gold seemed to lose its appeal, but in recent years the timeless choice has seen a revival and it's firmly back in fashion. This is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a classic and timeless ring. It has a certain vintage appeal, but your choice isn’t limited to the ageless solitaire design. Yellow gold can look elegant in any style of ring and it has been re-born with a glittering array of designs. The yellow colour has a really warm glow, giving the ring an indulgent feel. It cradles the diamonds and has a charming and cosy glow.

GoldWHITE GOLD

White is definitely the gold of the moment and is the most popular choice when it comes to engagement rings. It’s seen as more contemporary than yellow gold and creates a sophisticated style with its polished and refined look. The ‘silver’ colour strengthens the glitter of the diamond and a white gold setting can also help to enhance the colour of a gemstone ring with its luxurious sheen. It is also really versatile and looks beautiful in a modern design, vintage, classic or unique piece – there’s a huge selection of styles to choose from! Platinum is another metal that has the same stylistic values as white gold, but it is a harder wearing metal.

GoldROSE GOLD

Rose is the newest gold to be seen in engagement rings. It differs from yellow and white with its subtle pink hue. The gentle blush makes it a really romantic choice with the rose tones creating a delicate and feminine look that suits all skin-tones. The soft glow also allows the diamonds to truly sparkle. The chic choice has been rising in popularity, with stylish actresses such as Leighton Meester opting for the soft colour. It’s still the most unusual out of the three and will be a stand-out choice. The unique look is a beautiful way to update a classic style or to create a more distinctive ring.  Don’t worry though the fashionable choice is still timeless and will be loved for years to come!
