Laings Experience: The Bespoke Process

Our Bespoke Jewellery team are here to help you to bring your jewellery dreams to life. Creating a piece of bespoke jewellery is a truly special experience and it really is a magical journey. It may seem like a difficult task you have ahead of you, but taking your creation from concept to completion couldn’t be easier.

BespokeThe Bespoke Team

Laings is unique in that it has its own dedicated design department based right here in Glasgow.  Our design team is led by Kirsty Berry (BA Hons), an Award Winning Designer from the Glasgow School of Art, who specialises in elegant and contemporary designs. Kirsty is joined by Alison Harris (BDes) who studied her craft at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and is honing her skills within the team. Their creations are brought to life by our in-house goldsmith, Stuart Thomson, who is also a Certified Diamond Grader with over 35 years' experience in the jewellery trade manufacturing bespoke designs.Bespoke

These are the experts that will help to guide you through the process of bringing your jewellery to life. The team will work closely with you for the entirety of the design journey, keeping you involved throughout and continuously meeting with you.

Your Jewellery Dreams

Every bespoke design is different so we’ll tailor the process to fit each individual, but the first step always involves an initial consultation. Perhaps you're looking to adapt a piece of heirloom jewellery, breathing new life into it. Or, you could be looking for a diamond engagement ring, wedding ring, necklace, earrings, bracelet or brooch that is entirely your own. The initial meeting is a chance for you to discuss your ideas and what you want to create.

Our team want to start to build a relationship with you so that they can offer you the service that suits your needs. You’ll get the chance to discuss what designs you like and the features and characteristics that you prefer. From the first consultation you’ll remain fully involved throughout the process and the team will keep you up-to-date through several appointments.

Once our designers know what you’re thinking they’ll then start hand-drawing the piece, designing it through CAD (Computer Aided Design) or sourcing particular items. The Matrix technology creates computer generated images that look like photo-realistic drawings, allowing you to fully visualise the finished product. This means that the designers can add specifications that may not have been possible by hand, giving them greater control over the finer details of the design.

Throughout the journey you’ll also get the chance to meet our in-house goldsmith who will be bringing your designs to life in his workshop. This gives you the chance to ask more technical questions and see the different elements of your piece come together over time. He’ll also work on a sample product so that you can get a real feel for what it will be like.

And finally you will be presented by a beautiful piece of bespoke jewellery that is truly one-of-a-kind!
