Oval cut diamonds are a stunning shape and look simply fabulous when set in an engagement ring.
Lazare Kaplan who designed the shape in the 1960’s really wanted to optimise the carat weight of the stone. He did this by essentially giving the diamond a greater, stretched out surface area, meaning that it appears bigger than a round brilliant diamond of the same weight. The oval is also designed to pick up the same sparkle as the round brilliant, with the facets cut to create a brightness and fire to the stone.
The cut of the diamond creates the look of the ring and the style. An oval ring is a fabulously unique choice, although it carries similar properties to the round brilliant it creates a more individual and contemporary look and is an excellent alternative to the more traditional stone. The enhanced size also helps to elongate the finger, creating a beautifully elegant and chic look.
