Team Laings Help the Hopsice

Laings of Glasgow has a long standing association with the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow and we like to take part in charitable events as often as  possible. This year we were presented with the very special opportunity to do a terrifying zip-slide across the Clyde in aid of the Hospice Brick by Brick Appeal.

The  challenge was on for us to find some willing daredevils to take the three available places - as it turned out there were only three people in the company crazy enough to do it anyway! We asked the girls who did this brave challenge why they decided to go for it and what the charity means to them.

Louise O'Donnell, Sales Consultant - I decided to have a go at the zip-slide because I really wanted to help the hospice and thought I could raise quite a lot of money which I happily did - it felt good to be part of Team Laings at a challenge outside of our day to day work.

Gemma Matthews, Receptionist at Head Office - When the idea was put froward I thought it sounded like a fun thing to do, and its something that I hadn't done before so would be a bit of an experience! I was also moved to do it because I think its pretty special that the charity itself is so close to the Laings family business and its great to see help being given to people within our local area.

Kim Murdoch, Marketing & E commerce Consultant - When I was asked originally they said I could either do a the zip-slide across the Clyde or a 10K run and that made my decision extremely easy...I am more of a sprinter you see! On a serious note however I think there are very few people around who's friends or family haven't been affected by serious illness - particularly cancer, so it is really important that these causes are being supported as the funding they receive is minimal and they very much rely on charitable donations.

Upon completing this fundraising challenge the three girls managed to raise a wonderful £765 for the Glasgow Hospice Brick by Brick appeal. This particular appeal is part of a special project to aid the development of a brand new Hospice for the people of Glasgow. This new building is set to massively improve the current service with areas for both adults and young people, welcoming all kinds of patients with varying and specific needs. The building will also offer extra facilities such as private en-suite rooms, family accommodation, better quality access and parking and fantastic garden areas for both patients and visitors to enjoy. Once completed it will be a tremendous improvement on the already excellent facility and will offer a unique environment for patents and families to be cared for in comfort and security.

If you would like to learn more about this appeal or have any questions about the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice please contact us at [email protected]

We hope you have enjoyed reading this blog post and we would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to donate to this excellent cause - thank you for supporting Team Laings and most of all thank you for helping the Hospice.
