Welcome to our meet the team feature where you can get to know the people that help make Laings what it is today.
Today we meet sales consultant Karyn who works in our newly refurbished boutique store in the Argyll Arcade – she has been with the company for 2 years and has just fought off tough competition to win a coveted shop-floor star award 2014. This prize is awarded to just 20 leading jewellery sales associates that have proved themselves shining examples within the UK jewellery retail industry.
In this feature we like to get to know a little about some of the characters from the team here at Laings and ask them what it is about jewellery and watches that they love.
What is your favourite jewellery/watch piece that you own?
I love my Mikimoto earrings (the AA 6mm studs), I think that Mikimoto is a nice, luxurious brand to own and if the pearls are cared for they will last a lifetime.
Who is your celebrity style icon?
I really admire Eva Longoria, she has nailed the casual girl next door persona but also knows how the rock the glamour look. She is always polished,wears great accessories and even on a "bad day "she looks great.
What piece of jewellery/watch would you aspire to own?
My aspirational piece is by far the Diamond By Appointment Tulip Three Stone Ring, the quality you will find in this collection of rings is second to none, the piece has a really high finish and excellent overall quality. When you wear the ring you can feel the impressive weight but also appreciate the soft curvaceous design - the piece features a larger centre stone and two smaller outside stones which groups it together nicely and makes it well balanced. When taking everything on to account - the diamond weight, the beautiful design and the excellent finish in my opinion it really is fabulous value for money.
What would be your Engagement Ring style choice, Classic, Vintage, Modern Classic or Unique?
As you can see from my choice above I love the elegant simplicity of the classic trilogy ring, I think that its good to consider choosing an engagement ring that will sit nicely with a wedding ring. Since all Diamond By Appointment rings are "wed-set" to allow a wedding ring to fit perfectly and neatly in harmony against it then this classic style covers all the bases for me.
If you were a character from a movie who would you be?
The first person that springs to mind is Catwoman as portrayed Anne Hathaway in Batman - shes got a sweet side and can be gentle but she can also kick ass when required!
What about your birthstone, would you stick with your original or change it if you had the choice?
My traditional birthstone is Opal for October but my preference would be blue sapphire (September) what attracts me is the deep, rich colour, and hard-wearing practical properties of the stone - sapphires are second only to diamonds for durability and strength, and the vibrant blue colour looks great alongside diamonds. The finest example I can find of this combination is the 18ct White Gold Sapphire and Diamond Oval Pendant, I love the vintage design with modern twist of the white metal.
In your opinion what is the best buy available in your store?
I believe that Pre-Owned watches are excellent value and a fantastic investment, you can find well known brands such as Rolex, Omega, Panerai and Cartier in good condition at fantastic prices. In my experience it is worth keeping your eye open and due to ever changing availability within the market, if something you are looking for is not there one week then it could easily be there the next!
