Which Bridesmaid Style are You?

“ Your Bridesmaids are your closest female friends – you want them all to look and feel pretty, ‘cause they’ll remember!” Micci - our Vintage Bride

So you've hand picked your dazzling troupe of ladies to accompany you down the aisle, to arrange your dress, fix your make-up, but most of all be there for you on one of the most significant days of your life.

Now what are you going to make them all wear?!

Fear not Brides-to-Be as we have narrowed your search down and interviewed real life brides that have gone through the process to make YOURS a lot easier. Much like our “The 4 Brides – Which One are You” blog we are going to tie our bridesmaids style in the same manner: Classic, Modern Classic, Vintage and Unique.

Starting with our CLASSIC style, for those brides who love that traditional beauty, expect to see real touches of elegance here through floor length bridesmaid gowns. This bridesmaid style is timeless and compliments that classic bride and stunning church-with-all-the-trimmings look. We spoke our bride Linzi for some tips on how she catered for her 4 bridesmaids and 1 junior bridesmaid:

“I didn't have a particular bridesmaid style of dress in mind, apart from maybe halter neck, not strapless. But I was constantly looking online, in wedding magazines and wedding fayres for ideas! The thing that was important was for my bridesmaids to be happy to wear the dress we decided on together and still feel like they were their own person. So I wanted them to choose their own hairstyle, as I know everyone likes their hair different! I also wanted something that my junior bridesmaid could wear that was something similar to the older girls, so I showed the shop a style I liked and they made her one from the same material.”

Now on to our MODERN CLASSIC style, for those brides who want a twist on that traditional inspired look. This is the look that inspired my wedding, so I chose knee length dresses with a petticoat and tulle sash around the waist for my bridesmaids. I felt this look was fun whilst still tying in well with traditional look of our wedding. They were a sage green colour which complimented the fresh summer season our wedding came in and also was part of our colour scheme - alongside purple and white. I too wanted my bridesmaids to feel great in what they wore and we all had a lot of fun trying on different dresses and styles to see what suited everyone - I think this is a ritual every bride should go through with her girl friends! I loved how well the girl’s bridesmaid look also tied in with their poses of white gerberas (my favourite flowers!) which also featured in my bouquet and in all the bridal party button-holes too.

The VINTAGE look transports any wedding back to those days of elegance, style, and glamour. We have gone with the fantastic 50’s here as we talk to our bride Micci about her ‘Rustic Vintage’ wedding day:

“I wanted my bridesmaids dresses to be in the 50’s style as this complimented my wedding dress and also because it’s a style that suits all figures. I think it’s important to consider the figures of all your bridesmaids, unless they are all same, as you don’t want someone feeling uncomfortable. It’s also nice to spend money on dress they want to wear again and that can reflect their own personality. I wanted them to look beautiful, but also to not be scared to sit on hay bail, have fun and dance! ” Micci’s bridesmaids all had 50’s circle dresses with the red, white and black theme tying them altogether. For that vintage style check out designers like Oh My Honey (seen below) and Vivienne of Holloway.

And lastly that UNIQUE bridal style may often feature a bold splash of colour as our ‘4 Brides’ blog suggests, but here it’s our bridesmaids who take on that task! We spoke to newlywed Cat about her inspiration for her Rainbow wedding in Ireland:

“I did lots of looking at traditional bridesmaid pictures and knew that I didn’t want that! Knowing what I didn’t want actually helped me narrow down to what I wanted, until I came across an image on Pintrest of bridesmaids all dressed in the colours of the rainbow and I loved it! I got my 6 bridesmaids to all pick a colour and I asked everyone to get their own dress, in a style to reflect their own personality, with opposing colour shoes (and wellies for outside!). My top tips are to ask your bridesmaids for help. Keep them happy and don’t make them wear something they don’t want to wear. They are investing a lot of time and energy so make sure they feel special. This is also a time to celebrate them and your friendships together!”
