About Georgia Huxted
I have always enjoyed art and design; even as a small child I loved making beaded jewellery. I’ve always been very keen on hands-on jobs where I can use practical skills as well as a creative flair.
I focused on jewellery for my A level product design final project and from there I decided to pursue metal-smithing.
I went on to study art and product design at Peter Symonds College, Winchester and then went to University of the Creative Arts in Kent to study Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery Design. I graduated with a First Class Honours.
After graduating I got a job with a family jewellers in Guildford, Surrey. I spent time on the shop floor and at the bench, and was responsible for meeting with design clients and seeing the piece from the initial design stages to the finished result. My first proper design job was a platinum engagement ring set with a pear cut aquamarine for someone who wanted something a bit different! I spent a long time with the gentleman sketching up ideas to really narrow down what he wanted and selecting the perfect stone. The finished piece looked stunning and it was such a sense of achievement and excitement to have been so involved in such an important journey.
My favourite piece that I have made is actually my own wedding ring, it is a platinum ring with 5 rubover set marquise diamonds tail to tail. I love marquise cut diamonds and wanted something that matched my engagement ring but was wearable and not too delicate.
My favourite Parkhouse piece is the Esme diamond bangle, I think it is such a stunning setting and absolutely love the way the bangle is sprung so that it withstands being taken on and off!
The best part of the job by far is presenting clients with their jewellery and seeing their reaction. From restoring family pieces to brand new manufactures, I absolutely love being there to hand it over. Design pieces especially mean I get to build up a real relationship with the clients, working closely with them to produce something truly unique and personal. Hearing them say how much they love it and have enjoyed the Parkhouse service makes all the hours of hard work worthwhile!
